The ABC's of Basic Skin Care

Keeping your skin in tiptop shape can be easy if you begin to use some basic skin care habits that will always keep your complexion and your skin healthy and looking radiant and more youthful. Your skin will always reflect how you are feeling - if you are tired, happy, sad or stressed. It can all be seen in your skin so it is important to keep it looking its best - especially when you are feeling good.

The ABC's of basic skin care can be summed up in a few easy to use tips that will always ensure that your skin looks its best. Here are those ABC's that you should always adhere to no matter what is going on in your life.

Keep your skin cleansed twice daily using the product that is best for your skin type whether it is normal, dry, combination or oily. Avoid bars of soap as they tend to dry the skin but get a cleanser that is designed for your skin type and use it twice a day.

Use a toner that will help to remove any leftover makeup or cleanser and it will help to restore the skin's natural pH balance. Toners will tighten the skin and the pores so that it will be less likely to trap toxins and other debris in the pores. A person with dry skin should use a refresher/toner to constantly rehydrate the skin during the day.

Always wear a moisturizer during the day and at night. If it is sunny it will dry your skin as will climates that are windy or very cold or very hot. Skin that is already dry or sensitive is especially in need of a good moisturizer that will constantly keep the skin hydrated. The lips are especially sensitive and you should use a special moisturizer for them too. This applies to other areas of the body as well as the face. The feet and elbows can become extremely dry and need nourishment. Replenish the skin at night with a moisturizer that is designed to be used at night.

Use a sunscreen always as exposure to the sun even if it is cool outside can cause damage to the skin. This applies in all seasons as the sunlight can reflect off the snow or off water and can be especially damaging. Do not expose your skin even for fifteen minutes during the day. It should be applied to the face and hands especially but also to other exposed areas too.

Always remove makeup at night before bedtime. This should be part of your routine when you cleanse the skin but ensure you get all the makeup off and use a toner afterwards and a moisturizer. Allow your skin to breathe and even give it a break at least one day per week without any makeup so that it can rejuvenate itself. You will be amazed at how good it feels to let your skin "free" itself.

If your eyes are puffy or you have dark circles or fatigue lines around the eyes, use a special refresher for this area to revive them and reduce the puffiness. This area is especially delicate and the skin is very thin so look for a cream that will keep the area lubricated and will help to thicken the area so that it is less likely to form wrinkles or puffiness.

Exfoliate the skin on a weekly basis. This will remove dead skin cells and enhance the formation of new ones so that your skin will be clearer and less dull. There are many products that can be used at home that are designed for this purpose like a mini peel that can be done once weekly.

All of these tips are easy to do and can be done at home and do not have to be expensive either. They are necessary ABC's of how to keep your skin rejuvenated and well balanced and toned. Giving yourself a half hour or more each day to ensure that you look your best and your skin is always refreshed will ensure that your skin will look healthy and more radiant.
